June next year I think

My experience of Kickstarters is that they never meet the date they plan for. I'm sure this one won't, it's obviously done much better than they expected so they're going to have a lot more stuff to make. I would say don't expect it before Christmas next year - might be earlier than that, but I'd be shocked if they managed June.

It's a shame Kieron's got moderator privileges for the forum - it would be best to lock him out of this thread really.

A lot of the video interviews the guy states they want it to be ready on time, and thinks they can manage it.

And maybe we should start our own dropfleet forum...

Hopefully I'm wrong then! Must admit I haven't watched the videos. Videos for that kind of thing annoy me, telegraphs were good enough in my day, etc etc.

I'm thinking of getting the starter set, just so I can get a better deal than Matt.

I'll use my Dominion ships as a Resistance fleet...it's not like I'm using then for anything else. Also, they have talked about other races, so if imagine that the next big release after the Kickstarter will be a new race for both games.

I keep getting tempted to buy in, but then the duplication issue means that I won't be able to swap stuff as easily and there's somebody that thematically I wouldn't be able to play...although that does tempt me to get UCM.

I'm pretty sure there's mention of inter-clan conflict in the Shaltari background, you could always get on the cheaty bandwagon with Matt. Or UCM is viable as the Resistance are recruited and redeployed in other theatres?

I guess little enough is known about the PHR that maybe that could work too. But Mike's right, the Shaltari do fight each other (that's even what the first lot to make contact wanted humans for - they were going to use them as cannon fodder against other Shaltari...)

Of course, that scuppers the scheme to swap extra ships around, so there's that.

Can I just check?

Mike and Pete are getting a starter set
Matt's getting a Shaltari set
Wes is getting a PHR set

If that's the case, there might be some swapability as Mike and Pete would only have one lot of free ships between them...hmmm...

I've been watching the videos and I really want to buy in...I need some help deciding.

U.C.M. - makes thematic sense with my Allied Resistance, already has free stuff, won't have to play Pete
Scourge - gribbly ships, already has free stuff, allows Mike to ally with someone (which makes no sense in DZC), also lots of Scourge seems fluffy
Shaltari - makes a different force that can thematically fight anyone, I could switch to Feral Resistance and have them allied to the Shaltari, I get to cheat
PHR - works on the Feral Resistance thing too.
None of the above - but Imperial Armada instead and use the rebel ships as a Resistance fleet with the most appropriate stats.

Thoughts?

Lots of scourge does make sense, but can you put a price on not playing Pete?

Plus, Mike gets to less game nights than everyone else, so scourge makes sense

All this is true. The only thing stopping me is campaigns. I'd like to potentially sort out a Dropzone Campaign next year and Scourge/Resistance just doesn't make sense. I have to say that Matt's idea of a competing Shaltari clan also sits well with me.

Pete and Mike will have a spare Shaltari and a spate PHR ship. Wes will have spare UCM Scourge, Shaltari and UCM. Matt will have pare Scourge, UCM and PHR.

I'd assume Pete and Mike will swap one of their ships each for a Scourge or UCM ship from Wes and Matt. Wes and Matt will exchange spare ships with each other, which will leave each of them with either a UCM ship or a Scourge ship spare.

If I go Scourge, I'll be able to swap one spare ship with either Matt or Wes, whoever didn' swap they Scourge with Mike and Pete, and will leave me with two spare ships to sell/trade elsewhere, unless I fight Mike for other swaps.

If I go Shaltari, I'll have to fight Matt for trades, or sell seperately.

It makes more sense financially to get Scourge, but narratively it stinks. Shaltari makes more sense with my DZC army, but leaves me with stuff I don't need.

Curiously, UCM works both financially and narratively...

...and I'm back to where I began.

I'm not getting PHR. I know that much.

You could sort of make the argument that your resistance are a sort of scourge genestealer cult affair? Would that work? Don't the infected people just turn on their friends to star with? Must admit I can't really remember that bit of the background so well.

The latest miniature unlock is for a space station sprue. There will be rules for stations in the main game. I have a space station already...it might look a little like DS9.
