Sort of, wasn't rules but tactics I got wrong in the first game. Nearly wiped him out in the second one.

Not sure any of those work for my armies. The core book seems fine. I think the League of Rhordia is a more Empire-ish army than the Kingdoms of Men.

Hmmm, interesting! Might allow me a bit more flavour in use of my stuff. Attractively priced at £12.49 as well.

Yeah, will get it and it might inspire a new army at some point. Not sure if it doesn't add stuff to the lists in the first book as well

Well, I've begun the process of fixing, updating and rebasing my Wood Elves. I reckon I should be able to clear 2000 points when I'm done. I shall be looking for games in the bearish future.

Btw - I think we bought the wrong cavalry bases (not an issue for Pete), they're too narrow. Matt, check what you bought at that show last year against the measurements in the book. I have a plan to deal with it though.

Your cavalry should be 125x50, or 125x100 for two ranks. I'm sure I told you all this at Derby!

I remember asking somebody and being told I had the right ones, it might have been the Warbases staff - I'm going to blame Andy, just to save aggravation.  Anyway, doesn't matter, I'm using a couple of them for my Dryads. A deeper formation is a disadvantage before you complain, as it gives me a bigger flank and allows me to fit remotely the right number of models on the base.

So, after playing KoW for the first time in a couple of years, here's some stuff I really like about it:

  • It's quick. I got to Mike's at 8, we were done before 10.
  • It's simple. Minimal rules checking despite both being fairly unfamiliar with it.
  • It's balanced. Our forces felt well matched (although the dice weren't).
  • Heroes aren't gods. My general on a Pegasus struggled with a war machine, and Mike's wizard had limited impact.
  • Shooting is effective but not devastating - although when war machines hit, it hurts.
  • Magic items add character to units.
  • Bretonnian Knights hit as hard as they should.
  • Dwarfs can attack as well as defend.

In short. I'm a fan.

Yep, it's all good. I'm very slowly painting my GW wood from 2 years ago, when that's done I might give some rebasing a go.

For a last minute pick up game, it's brilliant. As we were saying, there's no meta-list building, and you have no choice but to build an army: you can't make use of any supporting units, war machines or heroes without having a regiment as a counterpart.

It's simple, fluid, and I really like it.

I've ordered myself a copy of Uncharted Empires (found a cheapish one on eBay). I think I'll look at that before I start basing just in case it affects things - not that I was likely to get to it before it arrives anyway.

Yes it is.

Saw the campaign book, that's a potential future purchase if we start playing semi-regularly.

I'm going to get the campaign book when it's released - Destiny of Kings.

At the moment I'm not particularly tempted by new armies as I currently have models for at least four, but at some point the Abyssals may call to me...

I have a box of Daemonettes you can.have as a troop of Succubi if you want? They're missing one that I'm using for the figurehead on the Strumpet but I think everything else is there

Thanks. Maybe at some point, but not for now. I've got plenty to be getting on with before DFC drops and starting another new army would get me in all sorts of trouble.

Perhaps you could use them to lure Wes into the game? Smile
