Had an idea for my steel behemoth puzzle:

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/High-King-Thorgrim-Grudgebearer

Always wanted this model and it can fit the rules! The breath attack could be some spell he's casting from the book...

That... actually seems like a very good fit. Would mean buying from GW though...

It turns out that both games were void at the weekend as I'd missed that Brotherhood Bowmen have the Reload! rule and can't move and shoot. Combined with the atrocious infantry and awkwardly sized cavalry units, I think I may be better served fielding my Bretonnians as Kingdoms of Men rather than Order of the Brotherhood. I reckon I can make it to 1500 points without having to paint much.

Sticking with the Brotherhood means that I need to paint things to bolster the infantry so that the cavalry can operate freely, and I'm still left with infantry that can't fight its way out of a wet paper bag.

So, Matt beat you and you lost to me even more embarassingly than it first seemed?

Nice.

I bow to your superior tactics of walking forwards with better troops and rolling well on nerve tests.

I think putting your horses in reverse didn't really help...

Charging didn't help much either.

I think the Brotherhood needs to be knight heavy or have foot knights to stay with the infantry to bolster them. I didn't help myself by spreading out, and the less said about my shooting, the better. Apart from the mortar and Knights, I had nothing that could challenge your horde.

Curiously, I could fight Matt because his armour was lower, and he could fight you due to crushing strength.

As I say, I think my Brets will stay as KoM. Matt might have more luck with the Brotherhood.

Which begs the question as to how I will use Uncharted Empires. I may have to do a Fishmen army...

Don't let Matt hear you say that! Were they in the Old World?!

I'm actually ok with fish men as something undiscovered because they don't contradict Warhammer stuff!

I think he might be talking about the Basilean ones. Which bear a passing resemblance to the contents of the AoS boxed set...

Are they called elohi or something or have I made that up?

I dunno, I'm sure they could be worked in somewhere. Fantasy, innit? I'd just want them to be worked into the Warhammer world, is all.

They'd probably fit in with some of the older fluff, like the gods of law. In fact the Basileans would suit Solkan, the God of vengeance that Witch Hunters venerate well. However, it's not a problem unless someone's planning an army...

But seriously, folks...

Do what you want, obviously. I would appreciate it if there could be at least a nod towards things happening in the Warhammer World, but I suppose in non-campaign games it doesn't really matter, and we don't even have any campaigns planned yet (but it normally happens and then stalls).

All of this is just because I really like the Warhammer background, at least from the period when I used to pay attention to it, and that's what attracts me to playing fantasy games. I'm never really that interested in playing "some generic fantasy", which is what Mantica feels like to me. I'm not invested in it, and I'm too much of a miserable git to try to get into it. I also quite like the challenge of making the Warhammer stuff fit, and I don't want to let that world die. But of course, that's not your problem. Awesome as I am, I don't actually get to tell people what to do, until The Plan is enacted and I become King of Everything.

Anyway.

My first thought was, if you're using Basileans, could they be some Warhammer nation that's only ever been vaguely mentioned? Maybe you could make them fit for some city in Tilea or something like that. Kieron's idea is good too (although I think the gods of Law were only from WFRP? I don't know much about them. Which is ideal for a new army I guess.)

If you want to use the Elohi in some other force, I'm sure you could figure out a nice way to do that too.

Personally I'm not really a fan of the Basilean models to be honest, but that's neither here nor there.

I've got a campaign in mind...I was reading the General's Compendium again last night. It might be narrative rather than rule and territory based, as that's better for ad hoc games.

It would be based in the foothills of the World's Edge Mountains, near to Sylvania and Averland/Stirland to accommodate Chaos Dwarfs, Empire, Dwarfs and Undead.

When, Destiny of Kings arrives, I'll put more flesh on the bones.

On a side note, I do want to play the rest of the FoW one...

Remember my blog post about Age of Sigmar all being some trainee wizard's failed practical exam? I had an idea for a campaign around that becoming a powerful artefact by mistake, and fighting over who got control of it.

Kieron wrote:On a side note, I do want to play the rest of the FoW one...

So do I! As we've both said before!

We just suck at actually organising anything.

I was thinking a pure Elohi force actually, I'm not a fan of the Basillean stuff either (besides those). I just thought they're Ogre scale in the game, and would.make a quick compact army that should look quite nice.

Not until the Chaos Dwarfs are done though!

On a side note Kieron, I'm happy to share Destiny of Kings if you want to plan? Just let me and Pete get our mini campaign done first

It's turned up today so I'm going to get thinking.

Matt, of course I remember that piece. It's now canon. But surely fighting about it might risk it being released...

I've now read Destiny of Kings.

Actually, the campaign in there would work for the four (or even five if Wes wanted to borrow an army) of us with only minor adjustments.

Good
Pete - Dwarfs
Matt - Kingdoms of Men (instead of Basileans)
Wes? - Elves

Evil
Me - Undead
Mike - Abyssal Dwarfs (instead of Abyssals)

Not everybody plays in every game, but it's definitely one to consider.
