Looks good, I've a few of questions.

How do you win the campaign, only by capturing all the squares on the map?

If all the squares for a particular faction are captured, are they 'out' or can they continue to try to reclaim territory? (Because they're hiding in a nebula somewhere or something)

What's the maximum point score for a fleet?

Just a suggestion, each faction has a home world in a territory square, might those particular squares be unique in some way? (Grant better defences to the defender or something)

All good ideas. I was wondering about racially specific objectives.

Klingon - Total Victory: deliver the death blow to one opponent (chosen secretly before the campaign starts)
Federation - Go Boldly Where No One Has Gone Before: control sectors in all regions of space whilst keeping the Federation free of enemies
Romulan - not sure, what do the Romulans want?
Dominion - Acheive Dominion: Completely conquer one enemy region of space

I like your idea for being out.

Also, the map has different features that we can discuss as we play over them, but for example, just off basic knowledge, Bajor Sector has a planet and a space station and we can add the wormhole to make things different when we play there from other sectors. My trouble with home worlds and making them special is that Earth and the Klingon home world are horribly exposed compared to Cardassia and Romulus.

Oh and as for fleets, you can have whatever size suits you and your opponent, but the more unique cards you use, the more resources you stick in one place.

What do we want? Death to the infidels!
When do we want it? Before JJ Abrams makes our home worlds star go supernova!

Yeah, didn't spot the lighter markers between sectors until Wes pointed it out to me just now.

The Romulans are basically the Roman Empire IN SPACE!, so maybe just to expand the overall size of their territory?

Failing that, capture Vulcan, but it is, again, horribly exposed.

The internets says that Romulans are traditionally isolationist and xenophobic. So I propose:

Romulan: All we want is a hug : Romulans must ally with 2 other factions. Any faction which no longer has a territory square, automatically allies with them.

I kind of like aggressively trying to form alliances. Your version is probably a bit too hard though, maybe any faction which has lost 1/3 of its starting squares automatically allies with them?

Also, given how uneven the starting sectors are, maybe we want to resize some of them to even things up a bit?

Yeah something like 1/3 left would be better. The rule would also make deciding who to attack interesting, you'd have to be careful not to force people to ally with Romulans.

It'd be a good day to get it started, and knowing my luck also a good day to die.

I'll either be playing with your two galaxy-class ships, or a massive federation fleet, depending on what Santa thinks I should be using.

That seems a bit extreme.

There weren't even any Federation ships in the emporium last time I looked.  Sad

Looking at the map everyone is just going to attack Matt first?

Can you not make up a map? A new expanse we're all fighting over or something

If you read carefully, you can attack people other than Matt round the back, also hopefully the objectives will force us to attack someone else (unless Wes chooses to target Matt). What's more Matt's best defence is not playing games, so burning your ships simply secures the Federation's borders! Smile

I was thinking of changing the Dominion objective to capture the home sectors of all the other factions. Is that too easy? If so...good!  Twisted Evil

The Romulan one could be empire building. They need to control more territory than any other two factions.

Was Wes attacking in the game against Kieron or have we managed four games without changing the map?

By the way, nice avatar Wes...

I'm surprised this thread hasn't been deleted and all traces of the game erased from the forum...

Not so much grounded as sentenced to hard labour!

I've been painting a ceiling so I haven't got round to campaign maps yet. Maybe tonight but I've got to wind up our clockwork computer first.

I wondered if we should start saying that for each game, after the initial dice have been rolled, that the attacker states where they wish to attack and where they are attacking from (even if it's from the nebula regions they had to come from somewhere). If the attack is successfully defeated by the defender then the defender claims the area from which the attack came (or perhaps at least rolls a dice to see if they do). This still gives the attacker an advantage as they get to choose what area they want to try to capture.

Something like that.

This is my first campaign-sort-of-thing, so for all I know it's expected that it will take several years to end, if at all. But I thought a new rule like the one above might speed it up a little, or at least shave a year or so off.
