Alternatively, he saw that he'd basically lost, and cheesed his way to a draw by refusing to attempt anything with his pinned tank, so it was impossible for me to reach the objective. He was almost wiped out at the end.

That's true, you'll win then. As long as you have a massive house to hide behind and their dice are so abysmally bad that you'll feel obliged to never shut up about it. Otherwise, you're likely to have problems.
