Kieron suggested when we were at Joy of 6 that maybe we should all commit to a project for a little while to give us enough to play something we're not really doing yet.

This seems like it might work, and it's generally more motivating to paint scores of French guys stuff for games that you're going to play regularly.

So, do we want to try that? Candidates that I can think of for this are:

Frostgrave - At least 2 of us are planning to use some stuff we already have, but we still need terrain and monsters for random encounters. Might be a relatively short project.

Kings of War - Again, we've already got stuff, but there might be terrain, and I'm really keen on doing some scenic bases for mine.

Dropzone Commander - Kieron's already painted his stuff, the over-keen git. Rest of us have armies in various stages of readiness.

6mm US Civil War - in terms of a project, it's the obvious one to do. There are 4 armies, of roughly equal size, that we already have, but still need to do work on. I think we're less keen on this at the moment though.

Anything else? Thoughts?

It would have to wait until next month, but it seems a good idea.

Frostgrave is a good place to start as its all new and shiny and doesn't require a lot from me. I'm planning for August to be a Batman and terrain month, so small is good for me as I've got about a dozen models, two buildings and some other terrain bits to do.

DZC I'm not adding to until I've at least played a game.
KoW doesn't need anything from me and I have plenty of terrain for it. I may multi base in time, but not yet.
ACW I suggested as its one we clearly need more motivation for, and certainly needs doing before the next Joy of Six.

In terms of other ideas:
Impetus - I need some
Zombies - Zomtober seems the best time
Napoleonics - I will if Matt will
Bolt Action - my Germans, Pete's Brits, Mike's Japs, Wes's Italians, Matt's Desert French

I thought we already did this? The only thing that's got in the way over the last few months was wanting to work through Imperial Assault.

As far as I'm concerned:

DzC I have 1500 points sat waiting for everyone to catch up.

KoW I have around 1000 points in the last edition lists, just need to translate it to current and repaint my old stuff

Frostgrave just awaiting my Rulebook for final clarification but I've pretty much decided on my warband and started painting it, as its a mix of old stuff and new

On The Seven Seas I have two crews built, and a third in progress, and I'm almost finished painting the first. I know its something I steamed into on my own but its still there to play. Same with DWMG as I have a crap load of things to play with which translate easily across to 7TV.

Bolt Action "Mike's Japs" are more a possibility for when you guys get a WWII itch and instill want to roll some dice, so I wouldn't pour your dreams into them happening any time soon.

ACW is pretty much a non-start as far as I'm concerned. Its not even real history, they only did it because the rest of the world had more medals so they fought each other to catch up. Dulls-ville. By all means, play away and I'll paint more pirates/Zombies/Daleks etc...

As far as terrain and whatnot, I have bits and pieces left that didn't get taken (some more impressive than others) for fantasy and sci-fi stuff, and a load of monsters and beasts for our Random Monsters in Frostgrave

'Mikes Japs' was more of a segway into poking fun at Matt's eternal struggle with the French. However, Pete gave me a sprue of them a while ago that I won't be using if you want them...consider them a gateway drug.

Anyway, I'd suggest that Frostgrave minis and terrain are looking like a winner in the short term, and Matt should get his finger out and finish his Shaltari - please tell me you're doing them in red, white and blue. And we should play some KoW...now.

I should add (as I probably didn't make it clear) that my vote firmly goes to Frostgrave. We're all excited for it, it won't take much to get off the ground, and when we do start playing the campaign mechanics are pretty fluid as far as growth so we can keep building the narrative without getting bogged down in bookkeeping.

If you don't want the Japs ill happily add them to the pike. Nothing wrong with a taster!

But yeah... The Fantasy itch hasn't been scratched in an age, I'm guessing you guys are feeling the same?

Dropzone - 1250 points painted - waiting for games and others to catch up!

Bolt Action - Trying to get most of the Germans I have finished before continuing with Brits.

Frostgrave - Going to use Dwarves to start, though I have bought Zagor so will slowly do a human band as I find models I like. Game on!

KOW - Personally going to wait until the full rules are out next month.

Good thing about Dropzone and Frostgrave is the ability to have 2 small games or 1 multiplayer! Think Frostgrave should be our first game as we have stuff to use, we need Wes and Matt to either finish or start painting their forces for Dropzone.

Theres' that other game as well, can't think what its called... something to do with BC? ACDC? DC...?

Ooh, Mike, I have Japanese Uniform paint you can have as well! Just remembered that.

Forgot to mention 6mm ACW. Yeah, something. *cough* Er...its on the list?! Yes, that.

I suggested the work together thing specifically for the ACW stuff because we are so reluctant to do it.

How about, for future reference, I look up a specific battle for us to put together and play?

That might be a good idea. Although any of this involves Wes coming on the forum....

Its a bit like Beetlejuice. I think we have to say his name 3 times before we're graced with his presence....

Maybe if you set it in 1943, somewhere near Kursk and we do it in 28mm?

Ok,

DZC - Just gonna finish off the remaining bits that need doing. Need a pack of command cards as well. Then awaiting games.

Bolt Action - I don't intend to get anything new at the moment. As mentioned before I would like to do a 1500 point game as some point, just so I can use all my half tracks fully kitted up. If only to watch them all being blown up without them ever firing a single shot.

Frostgrave - I'm probably the most interested in this at the moment, I've got the rulebook now and thanks to Mike and Kieron I should have enough stuff to form a warband fairly quickly. There's quite a few interesting bits of scenery for this that I've seen on the 'net, and some of it will be useful for The Stargate Project.

ACW - Picking a battle to recreate and a date to work towards is a good idea.

Overall Frostgrave is the thing I'm most interested in getting/seeing a game of. But let's wrap up Imperial Assault first.

Well that seems pretty unanimous! So how're we going to organise this? Kick off with Wizard painted by (x)? (And Pete that will mean Zagor, not "unpack Dwarf case and gloat")

I'm not planning to paint any new models for a... gang... party, whatever they're called, at least for now.

On Thursday, should all go to plan, I should have the opportunity to go into the loft and see what I've got that might do as random monsters though. Also terrain!

Not sure who else needs to paint a wizard. Wes, obviously. But I'm guessing Kieron is going down the "no new stuff" route as well.

Lay down some rules (guidelines?) then. If we're doing a project between the lot of us, we should at least have a goal in sight.

Ok, I think the first thing here is to get an idea of what we need to do for it, and what we've got that needs painting. I think it's fine for us to be doing different stuff as part of the same project.

I've got a... band(?) already.

I have a tower (the plastic tower from Battle Masters, if you remember that) which seems ideal and needs painting.

I also have my goblin town stuff from the Hobbit set, which I think could work, and some of the big plastic GW trees.

Once I've mounted an expedition to the loft, I might find other things I can use for random creatures so will add those to the list.

So what else have we got? What do others need to do to be ready to field a band? (I'm calling them bands now).

Wizard Band
I have a band, but I want to paint a few additional models - namely a thief, a second archer and a warhound.

Depending how much we like/play the game, I may do a new band later on. I'm tempted by Otherworld Miniatures (there might be some deals when they release their new skirmish game). In the long run, I'd like my miniatures for this game on the round lipped bases rather than square GW ones.

Terrain
I have a crypt, some hills, some trees, a cottage, a statue and a ruined chapel that are all good to go. I also have a LotR ruin with comically thin walls that is painted but would probably benefit from basing and a bit of scenic stuff to pretty it up. There's also a greek temple that I want to do something with like base it with a hill, as it stands a bit too tall at the moment.

Treasure Tokens
We should each have three (although 5 is possible depending on spells), so I'm going to make a few from my box.

Random Beasts

I'm going to have a rummage to see what I can pull together for these from my bits boxes. These are the lowest priority as they're optional.

Given that we are getting Imperial Assault finished, is it reasonable to aim to get at least initial bands (or just wizard and apprentice?) playable for the weekend after next? This will involve a different amount from different folk, but it seems the simplest way to start.

I need to paint my warband as it comes together (still awaiting my Apprentice) and I decide on the final composition.

As I said somewhere else I have a Wizard's Tower ( a pretty good conversion of one of the Warhamemr Fortress Towers that I liberated before Meadowhall GW got closed), the Forge World Coaching Inn and some pillars and obelisks. If they don't sell this week I also have both the limited edition LOTR Helms Deep and Minas Tirith sets.

As far as monsters, I've some wolves,  ghouls, etc. Need to see the book to see what's useful really.

Kieron I'm toying with getting a set of Chris Baker's cobbled bases for my band. I think he does them in a Warmahordes rounded style too if you want me to ask? Also I have some of Lumoin Croop's halfling if you want one as an Archer?

I'll hold off on the bases for now. But later maybe.

I'll grab that Halfling though. Thanks. I was going to use a D&D fugly mini. I've given Pete a Copplestone Husky to pass on to you for use as a Warhound. Everyone got one, as I had more than I would ever use.
