In response to Pete's outright lie about his purchases at Triples I started digging about the game and came across the fact that not only are the rules available for free, but also the character's stat cards are also available for each of the characters.

In addition, there's also a quick start guide and printable models.

I smell some Cheaphammer coming on...

Thoughts?

I took a look at this after you mentioned they were available the other day. Looks like something I could print at home in 10 minutes and have a go. There is a pitch image online (the playing surface is 2 foot square) as well, though I'm not certain how necessary that is.

I think the main reason for buying any of it is because the models are quite nice and a lot of people like to have a printed copy of the rules. Also the guy there said that 'Season 2' is going straight to retail and not being kickstarted, so I suppose that might not be free online.

I'm certainly happy to print the stuff out if you fancy coming over one night and giving it a whirl.

Hell, the Arrow team could proxy for a side if needs be.

I'm keen to give it a go. I've heard some very good things about it. The models are gorgeous, and I'm probably going to get some at some point.

However, me being me, and having a load of Undead and Bretonnian bits knocking around, I've figured that I could amuse myself knocking up a version of either the Morticians or Masons teams if someone who did buy models was wanting a game.

I suspect they'll keep the cards online because it allows them to update rules in the same way the Batman game does.

Having now played the game, I can officially say I'm in. I won't be buying a team in the short term but I am going to cobble one together to be able to play. It's a really good, tactical game in which the teams have very different feels. I'll be working on a Morticians Guild team, and maybe the Masons too, depending on parts (I need to find a monkey!).

If you know anybody who still plays Fantasy, there's a powder-monkey on the Handgunners State Troopers sprue for Empire?

Nope, sorry. I had my handgunners all done long before that version came out.

Curses! Foiled again.

On a separate note, the Empire bits you've undoubtedly got, would allow you to knock up several of the teams quite easily. I used Craig's Fishermen against his Alchemists (I won 12-4 btw), and you'd definitely be able to make them in the short term.

I've now played two games of this and I can confirm that it's a good game. I used my Morticians against JP's tournament winning Butchers. Predictably, he won 12-2. However, it's still fun while you're losing. There's a funny dynamic in that everything is cagey for a few turns, then it explodes into life and goals get scored and players are being knock down all over the place.

I've just been bullied by JP into taking part in a Guildball league. Was anybody thinking of getting into the game soonish? If so, would you like to join in?

I expect to lose...a lot.

I want to do it eventually, but it may be a new year thing.

What with Frostgrave coming and us probably playing Kings of War as well as everything else....

Going to try and start arranging some midweek games to get some actual wargaming in!

Ooh! Midweek sounds good!

Also holding off on Guildball till I can afford to buy a proper team. Seems a shame to fudge it instead of getting the gorgeous models that are why I was interested in the first place...
