So I've just been having a browse about for news on this and some bits and bobs stuck out.

First, while they will use similar mechanics (and very similar to KoW) the large vs small system looks quite pronounced. In Firefight "every model counts". While both are essentially Mantic trying out not-40k, Firefight is a smaller skirmish version where squads move quite fluidly. Struggling to see the point when they've just released Dead zone 2.0 though.

Warpath is actually more like KoW as far as I can see,  so I think squads will have a set "footprint" to adhere to. Not sure how I feel about that. A lot of folk are either grumbling about or celebrating the prospect of multi-basing and I kind of agree with both camps.  Units look awesome when based as squads, but it's going to be really awkward balancing things on buildings (unless you only have intact buildings, which would mean just a counter to show occupancy?).

How do you guys feel?

I'm more interested in Firefight. I'm hoping to be able to use my Marines for it.

I'm not that bothered though, as Bolt Action is fulfilling my shooty-tanky-skirmish game needs that I was missing from 40k

When Matt and I tried first ed Warpath, we liked it. Hopefully new versions won't be too complex as stripping away the volume of special rules from 40k was the best thing about it. Probably more interested in Firefight as I have no intention of painting more Blood Angels. As Pete said, Bolt Action and DZC scratch both ends of the 40k itch (which has never been that strong for me).

Having said that, I could possibly be drawn towards a system that could be adapted to skirmish level Dropzone as a side project.
