I thought it might be a good idea to put together a thread of games we'd like to play/get into, just as a reference point when we're planning games. I'm not talking about listing everything, just the stuff that's top of your list so we can possibly arrange games to suit everybody.

My current top five are:

Guildball - I really like this game and have the two teams I knocked up to give someone a try at it. I'm hoping it's something we might pick up as a group next year.

7TV - in some form, be it 7TV, 7th Voyage, 7ombieTV, Otherworld Fantasy or Doctor Who. I want to become more familiar with the mechanics of the game so that setting up scenarios off the cuff becomes easier and quicker.

Kings of War - I'd like some motivation to get my Wood Elves rebased and some games of this should help to achieve this. I also suspect that I'll really enjoy the game.

Batman - as ever. However, I'd also be keen to demo the game and provide miniatures to allow you all to try it out against each other rather than just me. I'm not actually feeling short of games though with the amount of tournaments that are popping up. I'm actually playing more games of this than anything else, so I'm not worried if you're not that interested.

Imperial Assault - I really liked it and would jump into another campaign. I'm actually considering getting it myself I liked it that much.

Kings of War is a definite for me, I just need to finish painting, but as everyone else got distracted and I bought a frickin big boat it got waylaid a little.

On The Seven Seas is a go soon. Need to finish The Strumpet, and get another five pirates done and I'm ready to go. Working on a second crew too, plus Pete's now got Navy incoming so there's potential for play even if none of you bother.

Frostgrave!!! You all disappointed me with this. I have a few games under my belt now, and it has to be said that only playing multi games and only as one-off scenarios didn't give you the best idea of how it really works. Campaign play introduces fragility into your warband, and totally changes your strategic view from slogging to sneaking, and fighting to treasure hunts (which was really the point in the first place). Really looking forward to more of this. And if there's room, we can potentially have eight of us in a campaign.

Doctor Who! Not everyone's cup of tea, I'm fully aware, but as it's essentially 7TV it's a very easy pickup game. There's 52 years of story to draw on, whether from the 800+ TV episodes, well over 300 audioplays or the hundreds of novels the sheer variety of story means there's scope for anything. If you want a small narrative game like Imperial Assault then pit the Doctor and his mates against a ship full of Daleks. Invent or sneak your way out as you won't survive a firefight. You want a skirmish? Let's send in U.N.I.T. to deal with that secret alien facility. Massive battle? Well the Daleks are the universe's greatest war machines, and the Cybermen are a relentless foe that just keeps coming. The Sontaran army is comprised of.billions upon billions of battle ready clones, and the Time Lords are as old as the universe, with technology and knowledge to wage unimaginable war. It gives you anything!

The Old Buzzard

Hi All,
I was in with Guildball at the kick-starter stage.
I have 3 painted teams and bought an unpainted 2nd hand Alchemist team.
My "pitch" was bought on the moor market and is a piece of green backed vinyl marked up with a black marker pen. Cost £7.50 Any old green you could blah from your grandma would do. As long as you can mark it up. I have seen large (3' square) pieces of felt with the marking embroidered on with a sewing machine!
Alway up for sharing my incompetence at this game. Very Happy Very Happy
Did you guys never get into Dead Man's Hand?
I have scenery and gangs. Other than that you need, rules, a tape measure, a D10 and a D20
Can be played on a 2 foot square.

I've been pondering this all morning. At this point, I don't really want to start any new forces for things - I just don't get time to do the painting and I have so much stuff lying around untouched already. To be honest, some things have seemed a bit of a chore to get painted recently, and I want to avoid that.
That's not to say I wouldn't play something if models were provided though! We've talked about doing "presentation games" or whatever you want to call them before. So maybe Kieron comes up with a 4-way scenario for Batman that can be done with the models he has, and acts as a GM for the rest of us for an evening. That kind of thing.

Anyway, games I want to play...

Flames of War! Remember that? We're halfway through a campaign and everything? I have about 5000 points of Americans? That one? I'd like some inspiration to complete my Germans for that too.

Frostgrave
- I agree with Mike. We need to give that a chance with a campaign. We talked about having that be aiming to achieve Transcendence, which seemed like a nice idea. I think there's potentially a lot there in that game, and I want to give it a go. The fact that I don't actually need to paint anything for it is a big help, but as it's a skirmish game I might do a few bits eventually. I've already started on fantasy terrain so that'll help.

Kings of War - I want to do this, but I'm a bit worried about it having enough to it if you see what I mean. Possibly one to turn into some sort of campaign or something later, if we play it a decent amount. Will benefit from me not having to do anything to play (which weirdly is likely to mean I do more for it as it stops it being a chore).

Modern stuff - This includes Force on Force, Flashbang, and things like the 7TV Terminator idea. I also want to do something zombie related with this. Also post-apocalypse things! I have lots to paint, so doing a few models and coming up with a way to use them (probably, again, with 7TV I would think) is likely to be the way to go. This is the sort of stuff I'd want to set up as a presentation game I think - I've got ideas, just haven't got around to them yet. Don't know when I will, but eventually it'll happen. Or I'll die of old age. One or the other.

Impetus - the game I had with Pete last week was really good. Want to do more of this! I have an army ready, which definitely helps. I might be tempted to do some terrain for this at some point.

Black Powder - I'd love to believe I'll ever do my 28mm napoleonics. Maybe one day. But we should do more of the 6mm ACW stuff. Last night's game was good, and even though we were outnumbered it didn't feel like there was nothing we could do - I think that's the strength of the system and we should do more with it. I think we really need some roads for it though, just to give you more choices to make (do I go for the road and move faster or not?).

RPGs - Yes, I need to write more Red Dwarf stuff, I got distracted by lots of painting. But I would really really like to do another campaign GM'd by Kieron. He's great at GM'ing, with a subtle blend of just enough rope and pure evil, but presented in a friendly way to lull you into a false sense of security. Go on Kieron, you know you want to.

As I keep banging on about, I'm hoping having a bigger table at the new gaff will enable us to have more games, as well as bigger games!

Bolt action - want to get my Brits up to 1000 points, and continue to add to my germans. More games, bigger games!

FOW - maybe doing some more of my Brits may encourage you to do some more Germans Matt? But yes, we haven't played this for a bit. Enough of the late late late late war yanks...

Dropzone - most of you need to paint/buy more! Then we can start to play attacker/defender games.

Dropfleet - will keep an eye on this, could be cool to tie into a campaign type thing.

X-wing - got loads, need to play it.

Kings of war - same as Matt. Going to rebase my dwarfs when we've moved house.

Black powder - enjoyed the game last night, even though we won convincingly. Fun scenarios. Might do another era in 6mm. Not convinced on Samurai...

Impetus - going to add more stuff gradually, but again, enjoyed playing it!

They can be mid-war yanks too...
But yes, doing some small games against your brits would probably get me moving on the Germans.

No, but we did manage to get Wes to buy a gallows before we dropped the idea...

Right, now everyone apart from Wes has replied, I'm going to throw in a couple of responses to things that have been raised. This is just to get ideas out in the open rather than be awkward.

Frostgrave
Being totally up front about it, I genuinely didn't enjoy the two games I've played so far. However that may have something to do with them being multi-player, me choosing board edge last both times and being caught between two enemies, and also going last on the first turn meant getting boned before I actually got a turn.

I hear what your saying about two player games, and will give it a go, but I would be wary about committing to a campaign in a game that I've not really enjoyed so far. However, as Matt says, I don't need anything for it, so it's easy to give it another go.

Dropzone Commander
I really like this game a lot. But I'm afraid I'm going to be slow and steady on army building. Every game I've played so far has been stretching what I have to its points limit, I'd like to continue at 1000 points for a bit as I add stuff so that I can experiment and have a little flexibility.

Impetus
Once my army's done, I'm more than up for games.

FoW
I'd like to get the campaign done too. If it helps Matt to get his Germans done, we could switch sides and I'll take the Yanks. I've got some units to do for my Americans, so this would probably help me. I haven't mentioned this too much as games have to really be at Pete's and he was clearly sick of seeing his Panzers explode when attacked by cloaked Romulans.

Black Powder
I've thoroughly enjoyed every game of I've ever played, but because I'm not petty-minded, my stuff is quite low down my paint queue and I won't be feverishly adding stuff for a while. Smile

X-Wing
Pete, this seems a good game for when we're both not working at the same time.

Kings of War
Seems to be some consensus on this. Let's play!

On the Seven Seas
I'd like to see a game of this. I also have enough natives to play.

Doctor Who
Mike, we really need to get our asses in gear and sort out that Family of Blood game.

7TV
Matt, I'll set up scenarios for Terminator and Zombies so we can play. The zombie scenario I'm planning s waiting on my petrol station.

Guild Ball
Bill, we should arrange a game.

RPG
Thanks for the vote of confidence Matt. I'm still feeling a bit burnt by the previous group, but if there's interest, maybe.

I'd be a very happy bunny if you did either that 2nd Ed WFRP thing or Paranoia again (although I think you said Paranoia was a lot of homework).

FoW ! Yes I do remember it. I have N(X) of Soviets, actually 8 full filing cabinet drawers Embarassed Early middle and late. I could bore you with real numbers but I will refrain.
I have armies for all the combatants in North Africa except the Canadians. I don't no why no Canadians I guess I just never got around to it. I am a bit light on vanilla Brits too.

Kieran we must get around to Guild Ball. Have you had a game yet? Life is a little busy this week. Carol goes in to hosp for her other hip replacement on Thurs. And I have 3 days work to fit in too.

I have figures for Bolt Action, Soviets and Germans.

DMH is great fun. I was being a little economical with what you need for the game. A special pack of playing cards is needed. It comes with the rule book and I have 2 of both. The cards add to the cinematic element of it. one on one it is funny. Multi player it can be a screech! Alliances forged then ratted on.
Impetus. Not played for ages. Would struggle with the rules. I have a Macedonian army painted and a Viking one based up.
I have heard of Frostgrave but never played it. Is it like Mordheim but with more powerful wizards?

Too Cool For Forum Guy

Right, now everyone apart from Wes has replied

Keep your hair on! You posted this late last night, some of us have to work (or are expected to be working while there, Matt!).

Black Powder
Though there are still bits I don't quite understand, I've enjoyed both the games we've done so far, and with a little notice would happily paint up the rest of my stuff for more games.

Imperial Assault
I enjoyed this and will happily purchase one of the expansions when it seems like it's been enough time since we last played.

Dropzone Commander
I'll buy some more stuff soon.

Stargate
One day...

Force on Force/Flashbang
I've played these a couple of times with Matt and they're always quite amusing games, plus they're very quick so there's time to 'swap sides' and see if you can do better/worse than the other person.

Dreadfleet
I'd like to play a full game of this.

FoW, KoW, Impetus
There's quite a few games you've listed here that require buying and painting a decent sized army so I'd like to see/play them a bit before buying in, I know that some of you have a couple of armies for each that I'm sure you wouldn't mind letting me use for a game. Smile

RPG
I'd like to do some more of these be it Red Dwarf, Fantasy or otherwise.

I'd like to do a few more 'one-off' type games, like the Zombie city/cabin in the woods ones that we've done. Not just Zombies, but Doctor Who, Terminator, Pirates etc.

Perhaps we should just make a checklist to refer to for the next time 'what are we doing next week?' is asked...

Wes is right about expensive armies and I could provide both sides for a North African adventure. I have several factions for DMH too.

Does anyone have a WAB army? And if so what period.
(Back to work now Shocked It has been a few days. Your clock is wrong.)

Apologies! I hope you are not permanently scarred Exclamation Embarassed
I have Carathaginians as well as the Baba's you mention Dan left his Hoplite army here. I have also the "African invaders" from the El Cid book. I think I bought some Norman Knights from you. They are still in the box. (More embarrassment. SAGA went off the boil.)
