1 Christmas fun day! on Mon Sep 28, 2015 8:28 am

Tuesday 29th was selected as the most likely date!

I have to pick my off duty by the 5th October so can anyone not do that day that they know of. Apart from Michael, he's not allowed.

So do we think the Berlin 1945 thing is a goer? Having a heavily built-up board would be interesting. Lots of assaults, probably.

I was thinking about this, it may end up as a boardgame day as we may end up moving house again at the beginning of January so my stuff may be packed away again!

Will have to see closer to the time...

If the table's still available we can probably bring stuff.

Or, controversially, we could go to Wes's's's's.

I'd have to see what Katy is working, if she is working that day I can only do stuff here...

If we are doing Berlin, I can bring along all my buildings, most of them are relatively appropriate.

I keep meaning to post some suggestions for the proposed Big Bolt Action Berlin Business game we talked about for the Christmas day. So here we go...

I suggest that we stick to 1000 points per player, using the latest late war lateness we can manage for army selectors (which means Wes will have veteran tough fighters. Oh joy). For me and Pete, that means using the Last Levy list, which I think is fine for both of us (I don't think it requires the use of volkssturm).

I think we want a table with as much urban terrain as we can manage - I'll bring buildings, Wes please bring my buildings that are at your house, Kieron if you can bring them too, I bet we can fill a table. Might even make sense to the use Pete's black vinyl thing for space battles as the surface instead of grass.

As for a scenario, how about this off the top of my head...

We play lengthways down the table.

Germans deploy everything within 12" of the centre line.

Americans and Russians have one thin table edge each. They can put up to half their force in reserve, everything else comes on as "first wave" (so move on in the first turn, no need for an orders test).

For victory conditions...
Divide the centre part of the board into sections, holding them at the end of the game is worth a different number of points.

Sections within 6" of each side of the centre (German deployment zone) - 10 points each.
Sections between 6" and 12" of the centre - 7 points each.
Sections between 12" and 18" of the centre - 3 points each.

If there's a Russian and American unit within 1" of each other at the end of the game, the allies have linked up in this sector, gaining an extra 5 points.

Most points wins.

So, there's a bit more available to the allies, but if the Germans can't be winkled out of their deployment area at all they'll get at least 20 points. I don't know if that makes things too hard for the allies.

Thoughts?

My only thought is that attacking is always harder in Bolt Action, so can we have a preparatory bombardment to screw up your inexperienced troops? Smile

Obviously, after arriving late, I'll then roll a one.

Yup.

Wes suggested something different. Go for a hypothetical US parachute drop into Berlin to support a Russian offensive.

We could also use the parachute rules for volkssturm units to show them randomly gathering together and joining the fight in response to the attack.

Makes it a bit different from a run of the mill game.

We now have a bigger table to play on! Is 1000 points a side a bit small? We've done games like that before in 1 night

I don't see why we can't go bigger.

Would there be any major opposition to me using the optional rule that allows Russians a free SU-76 rather than a rifle squad, as it will allow me to run two platoons and get more toys on the table? It's still inexperienced.

I'm not sure, but then I suppose I could borrow your stuff if there's a shortfall. I'll have a look.
