I see what you guys mean about how brutal the game is! Played my first run last night against my freinds Steve and Andy. First turn I Bone Darted Steve's Apprentice with my Necromancer and essentially cut him out of 1/3 of every turn. And that has a massive impact! Having to wait and watch everybody cut down your warband because they still have spellcasters must be frustrating.
My Archer managed a fantastic sniper shot on Andy's Enchanter later on too, just before my Templar then smashed his Apprentice to mush.
I was left the only one with useful spellcasters and managed to secure some decent positions on the board. I'd only lost my warhound at the close of the game, while Steve's warband was whittled down to just his Wizard and Andy had a couple of crossbows and thugs and a Tracker (that had mostly hidden and done nothing all game).
I disagree with you guys about the importance of Treasure in multiplayer games though. Concentrating on Treasure won me the game, taking four off table compared to Steve's three and Andy's two. I could probably have done it on pure attrition looking back, but that seems a much riskier approach.
Spell selection was also a massive impact! Steve took a Sigilist, but chose crap spells by trying to second guess what we were going to pick and counter them, rather than choosing spells to control the turn, and it severely disadvantaged him. I took a good mix of control and offensive spells across my selections, as did Andy, and they worked fantastically.
In all, a fantastic game which was incredibly easy to pick up. Really looking forward to tonight!
