We're going to kick off our first collective campaign. It's set in 1944 and pits General Patton's Third Army against hastily assembled Panzer Brigades.

Anyone is welcome to take part and can choose to support one side - I shall be playing both ends against the middle.

Although in an ideal world, all battles would be fought between US and German forces from the 'Blood, Guts and Glory' book, that's not practical. Therefore armies can be chosen from any Late War British (and Commonwealth), American (including French) or German lists.

Games can be played at any points level, however, the smaller the game, the bigger the impact Firestorm troops will have.

Here's the basic campaign map:

All the campaign rules can be found here: Firestorm Lorraine

If you have any questions, post them here. After tonight I'll be able to post details like number of battles in turn one, etc.

Feel free to get stuck in.

Here's the map at the beginning of turn one:

Number of Battles: 4
Initiative: Allied +1
Allied Air Sorties: 3
Special Rules:
  • Germans must attack with Panzers if able

  • US must attack across Moselle, into Luxembourg or to recapture lost territory

  • Germans in Metz and defending Moselle gain Field Fortifications

  • Panzers forced to retreat are captured

After Matt succeeded in feeding every Americn tank he could muster to a pair of Panthers, nothing much has changed. Here's the map:

The only change is that one of the US air sorties has been used up and there are only three battles left in turn one. More details can be found here.

Why does the map get slightly smaller every time?

Who said that?

Question!

Can you attack from the same sector twice in the same turn?

So, if we played a game and I got initiative, could I attack from B3 into A4 again? Can I use the same firestorm troops again in the same turn if they weren't destroyed?

The pdf seems to suggest you can but doesn't explicitly say either way, unless I've missed a bit.

Yes you can.

Remember to add one to the US initiative roll, roll for weather if you use planes, add defences for crossing the Moselle (or attacking Metz) and roll for destroying Firestorm troops at the end.

I'll lend you my MG nests and minefields to use as trenches.

So, I managed to win a game! Came very close to losing it but was able to snatch an objective and come away with a 4-3 win.

This means that I have now taken A4, and will move my 3" anti-tank guns (which were in fact painted in time to be used) to that space.

We'll need to roll to see if Pete's infantry were destroyed, if not they need to fall back somewhere.

I've used another air sortie as well.

Actually, at 4-3 you both need to roll for destroyed Firestorm troops, so you might not be going anywhere...

Having said that, both are only destroyed on a 6. I roll for both here and update the map accordingly.

Just re-read the after action rules, and by Jove you're right! Victorious firestorm troops can indeed be destroyed.

Only my 3" guns fought though, so I can still use the infantry to advance into A4 if that happens.

Updated map.

The Americans have cut off the Panzers in Luxembourg who are going to have to cut their way out themselves or risk being destroyed for the remainder of the campaign.

Another game done.

The Germans launched a counter attack across the Moselle from Luxembourg. Aggressive defence from the Americans saw them off and the firestorm troops were captured leaving Luxembourg looking vulnerable. Battle report on my blog.

There's also a battle report of my near run thing that achieved precisely nothing in terms of the campaign on my http://cheaphammer.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/firestorm-lorraine-hungry-big-cats.html.

Also, do you want me to bring any Americans?

I have TANKS, and can just about muster a Rifle Platoon if you ignore the LMG's and pretend that one stand is bigger than it is.

Can you bring enough Germans for the Firestorm troops in any territory that you plan on attacking?

Hmmm, that worked. Time for stage 2.

Mr Kieron! Can I have £10 please?

Yes, if it's easy for you to do, just bring all your Americans and I'll bring all my Germans.

In that case...

You've got two lots of armoured Panzer Pioneers, two Tigers and two Flak 88s for me to play with...

Anything I've forgotten Noah?

You've got Stugs! How many Stufs have you got?

View user profile http://maddogandenglishmen.forumotion.co.uk

21 Re: Firestorm Lorraine on Sat Aug 31, 2013 1:43 am

At this point, as they're still on the sprues, my StuGs are only hypothetical.

Hypothetically I have three of them. But unless our proxying gets really weird and we start moving sprues around, you can't really use them.

I actually have 3 lots of armoured Panzerpioniers, including 2 stuka zu fuss.

And 2 Jagdpanzers.

And a single painted Panther.

Good to see Wayne has joined in. Those Hungarian Pz's not getting the stormtrooper move does make them easier to destroy.
Enjoyed your blog Kieron.

Just cos you lost the last game doesn't mean you shouldn't update the map again! Laughing

I'm having a few issues with my laptop and so have been held up a bit.

The battle report of Matt only just beating me, despite having more points and downgrading my troops morale, is on my blog along with the updated map.

Can somebody copy the map over to here as I haven't worked out how to do that on my phone yet.
